Are you heading to Austria for the Winter holidays? Here are the two best pistes of the Austrian classic ski – and aprés ski – resort of Zell am See-Kaprun that you do no want to miss on a powder day!

The two best pistes – for powder skiing

One thing that Austrians are excel at is piste grooming. Perfect corduroy slopes is a skier’s wet dream. However, what causes even more intense winter drooling is fresh powders snow. No one wants to miss out on a perfect dump, right? Here are two secret spots accessible within ski resort boundaries that are unbeatable when the pow hits the pistes.

Schmitten (Zell am See): Make your way up the Schmittental to the ski lift Trassexpress. Make a left as you exit the gondola and head down the blue piste #1. As you get mentally prepared for an ocean of pow stay as far left as you can until you have the option to go straight or make a right. Go straight and you will end up on the piste Trass #14, fierce black piste if groomed and a pow paradise if hammered with fresh flakes. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the only piste on Schmitten that is left unprepared whenever there is a snow storm!

Kitzsteinhorn (Kaprun): Take the gondola Gletscherjets 1, 2, 3 and 4 until you are at the top of the mountain. As you exit the last gondola turn left and enter the tunnel that takes you to the Gipfelwelt 3000 where the restaurant and panorama platform are located. Instead of entering the shuttle you go down to the left where beneath the shuttle platform. Straight down from here you have 600 m of vertical straight down to the piste X1. If there is fresh pow, your run will be unforgettable.
